Shall We Knit? blog

Flying Saucers

Oh Dear! With a title like that am I going to get all kinds of bizarre spam? Anyways, look at this sock yarn – how cool is this? It is double wound onto the spool so you get 2 identically dyed socks. It even shows you how to unwind it from a pencil hanger over a door knob. This is just fun AND its soft!

And don’t forget – last day for Stitch & Pitch tickets!

Zena – again

Zena is sporting the latest attire in doggie fashion – a cross between a scarf, a shawl and a bandanna. Only problem is we don’t know what to call these. I was thinking Dawl – cute right? But not if you say it outloud, it comes out like doll and thats just confusing.
So we need help! Post in the comments any ideas for what to call these things. We are working up sample #2 and Zena will be having a line of small doggie projects. Have to put this lazy girl to work somehow.

Zena – just cause she’s cute

now how lazy can this dog be when she can’t even get on the pillow?
Lots to tell you but I’m unpacking boxes.

and here’s Anne…

I was going to blog about the wonderful weekend we had with Anne Hanson of Knitspot but I read her blog this morning and she has said it all! Except for how much we have enjoyed getting to know her better – AND we are talking about a do-over next year! After all having Anne for my birthday seems like something we should do again. What do you think?
So, go over to Anne’s blog and enjoy. Knitspot

937 – thats the magic number!

Guiness Record
Stephanie – the Yarn Harlot twittered about it but I can’t seem to get a pic to load so follow the link above.

Last summer I had the thrill of going to the first Sock Summit in Portland, Oregon. It was an amazing week and I posted about it here and here. One of the highlights was being in a room of 937 knitters all knitting at the same time – and we have just found out that we have the official Guinness World Record!

Sock Summit has just been announced for 2011 – I know my travel partner is already planning her holidays and I am seriously pondering … it was a blast.

Birthday news

There will be none of that talk about numbers here today – you hear! But we do want to spread the word that one of our favourite people is having a special day today. It is Cari’s birthday!!!
We love our Cari, she has the most wicked sense of humour – and fast – boy she just comes out with those one liners so fast there may be some p-ing of pants.
And memory – do not go up against her in a song memory game – she can sing you lines from some of the most obscure songs. And we have checked and she is right too!
We are so lucky to have her on our SWK team but we are blessed to be able to call her friend.

We Love you lots

name dropping – part 2

Karen here : So last Saturday I planned on having a quiet morning at home before going down to the shop at noon.  Lynne is at the shop so everything is under control.  Right?  Well – Cari is over at the booth at the Market and she calls and says “guess who was just here?”  Now how am I supposed to guess?  And then she makes me guess – obviously I couldn’t so she told me “LUCY NEATBY WAS JUST HERE!!!”  How flippin’ cool is that?  I guess Lucy was visiting her daughter in the area and came to do the market thing.  And Cari being the major Shall We Knit? cheerleader that she is – says “well if you have time you HAVE to go out to the shop.” So, quick as a flash I’m out of my Saturday morning clothes and into work duds and I’m off to the shop – just in case.  And she actually came out!  The picture shows her with her Chicken purse and so of course we had to give her one of our Carried Away chicken bags.  And right away she transferred her sock into it – she loved it.  I even asked her to help me with my nasty SSK on the wedding sweater!

Wow!  I love my job!

oohh, my pretties..

(Karen talking here – even though the computer wants to say it’s Cari.  Tech guy will be back to work on Monday and fix this.)

It’s funny (in an odd sort of way) – but here we sit waiting for Summer to make an appearance and we have finished doing most of our Fall ordering.  AND some of it is starting to show up!

Yesterday we received a part shipment of DellaQ bags.  These are knitting bags and needle cases – gorgeous and with a good cause behind it.  From the website “When you purchase a della Q product, a portion of your proceeds are donated to Vietnam Quilts, a
non-profit organization that trains low-income and rural Vietnamese women in the art of quilting, and provides them with a means to a steady income.”

say hello Rosie

rosie-comes-to-visit.jpg

Everyone say hi to Rosie – she has come to live at the shop.  Wonderfully knit by Amy from a pattern in this gorgeous book.  If you haven’t seen it and you have any kids in your life – you have to see it.

But Rosie is a little confused since she came – first there is this have-needles-will-travel.jpg and then she sees this rosie-is-confused.jpg What is a poor little piggy to think?  Well, we had a chat and now she knows all about World Wide Knit in Public and the giant knitting needle contest that is a Breast Cancer Fundraiser.

So, now Rosie is happy in her new home.

talent

I know that I’ve said before how I am so thrilled to have so many special people in my life.  And today I am going to name two.

First is Lynne, she is my right hand at the shop and is an amazing friend and person.  And today is her birthday.

Second is Katherine.  She is one of the most talented people I know.  Whatever she sets her mind to – she rocks it.  Well the summer issue of Knitty is up and Katherine has a design in it.  Go check it out.

asdf

I can’t believe how fortunate I am to have these 2 strong, caring, talented and funny women in my life.
