I think I’m in trouble! Why didn’t someone offer me a hand out of this quagmire? Anyone – you could have just said a word to let me know what a slippery slope this spinning thing is.
OK, so skirting the fleece doesn’t really appeal to me but it’s good to have the head knowledge – but do I really have to put my hands in that potty covered stuff? But the carding, now how relaxing is that? I had to make a conscious decision to put away the carders and do some spinning. It was just so calm sitting in the back yard with my carding and the dogs.
And then spinning, once I got past the spinning with 2 left feet (I’m just past it) I’m starting to enjoy it. And the language is starting to make sense. It’s like learning a foreign language, right now I can’t understand a lot of what she is saying but there a words now that are becoming familiar. Donna Hancock of Wellington Fibres is amazing! She is very patient and doesn’t mind going over some things a few times until the light goes on.
I finally felt comfortable to put the spinning rovings into the computer. I have had a couple of orders sitting here taunting me with my lack of understanding but I have conquered them! My thoughts have been that if I don’t get them into the computer and into inventory then I don’t have to admit that I have no idea what they are.
So, yesterday I sat down and put Wellington Fibres and Louet rovings into the computer and then carried them down to the shop and put them in their new home. Today I am doing Rovings from Dugald, MB. These ones have to be divided up into smaller batches so I ran out of time yesterday but we’re on track today. Once I have my camera back (it’s on a business trip with hub to Puerto Rico) then I will take some pictures. The colours of some of these rovings demand to be put in a glass vase to be admired and oohed over.
Next, I am getting my class schedule together. Any ideas of what we should have or teachers that you can recommend?

This last week or two has been such a roller coaster ride, I was just exhausted. Saturday after we closed up we went with some friends on the motorcycles for a ride and dinner. I kept going from nearly falling asleep in my dinner and on the bike to talking a blue streak as the reality hit me again. I AM REALLY OPENING A YARN SHOP!
The township needs a few more things from the owner and one of them came from a guy who was on holidays. So everything will be coming together in the next few days. But did I tell you - I AM REALLY OPENING A YARN SHOP!
In the meantime, I had to drive my hubbie to the airport for his business trip and then I slept and read (Harry Potter – and don’t tell me what happens) and did some spinning and slept some more and today I feel like me again. I am doing a few small trips of stuff to the shop (spinning stuff and knitting machine mostly) and a few trips home with stuff (mostly electrical that has turned my office into a electrical closet). I AM REALLY OPENING A YARN SHOP!
I am going to work on a few small orders this week and I need to get the class schedule together now that we are REALLY OPENING A YARN SHOP!
I started spinning lessons 2 weeks ago. People were asking for spinning supplies but I feel like a fraud selling it if I don’t know what I’m talking about – solution-take lessons. So I signed up with Donna at Wellington Fibres, she is amazing but I feel like I’m using 2 left feet. I’m still waiting for that Eureka moment! But I can see how you can get hooked on the spinning. But cleaning the raw fleece – not so excited about.
Watch for upcoming news, there is the baby shower for the grand opening and the grand opening sales and we are still doing the tea cozy contest and I AM REALLY OPENING A YARN SHOP!

OK, here’s what’s happening, we have opened for the weekend but…There are still a few things that need doing, so we got permission from the township to open for the Harry Potter Festival and then we’re closed for a few days while stuff gets done.
How is that for a great job? Work 2 days and then take a week off. But I’m going to work on getting together classes and workshops and finishing some orders and maybe a bit of knitting.
So instead of lots of words I’m just going to give you a few of the pictures from the last week.

OK, now back to your knitting and we’re see you in a week in the shop.

This is so much like labour it is unbelievable. I hurt in every bone in my body, in places that I have no idea why they are hurting. But yarn is in the shop, I took some fun pictures last night of some good friends helping to stock shelves but they can’t get put on the computer yet cause the computer is getting ready for its big move. Hopefully tonight I will have some nice shots to show you.
Tonight we are setting up electronics – computer, printer, phone, internet and something for music.
Friday is Harry Potter Festival in town and I’m opening my doors at noon. And for the first day we will be open with most of the downtown till 1a.m. Everything will not be totally ready but we’re going to have fun anyways.
Pass on the word, I will be doing a newsletter next week but with the backwards and forwards of starting this business it seems a little uncomfortable to say in mass print that I’m opening. Cause you know this blog is only being read by friends and thats different – right?
Ok, off for my coffee and filling more shelves.

Oh Yeah! We are definitely in labour, I think the baby is crowning! O look at that lovely piece of floor, is that not beauuuutiful?
Stuff is happening, people are doing all kinds of things, some of it is ugly and some of it divine. Over the next couple of days I’m just going to show you bits of what is happening. THEN we will have a baby or in our case a shop. Can you hear me singing?
Ok, I’m off for the final bit of paint, now get knitting cause I want to see it all shortly in our new home…

Do you remember way back in the beginning of May when I posted about feeling like I was pregnant? Well, it looks like we are in labour now! Stuff is all happening on top of each other - like contractions. We are doing a bunch of stuff but it looks like there will be a baby announcement any day. Stay tuned.
I think I need an epidural….
