Meet Stitch. This was my secret knitting for the last 6 weeks or so. My Grand-daughter Darrian was visiting and we were in the shop next door “Is This Chair Taken” and she saw a sock monkey she was in love with. Well, being the good Grammie I told her she could pick out any yarn and I would make it for her for Christmas if she could keep it a secret. (Fun thing was she did such a good job of keeping it a secret that she totally forgot and was totally surprised).
Well, she is my Grand-daughter and likes good wool so she picked out Manos! This guy is big, Darrian is 9yrs. old and the monkey almost looks her in the eye. He was quite the hit Christmas morning!
Now back to my regularly scheduled knitting.

We are doing my side of the family Christmas dinner this Sunday and one of the things I’m bringing is dessert. I think I’ll make Trifle for a change and since I’m at the shop and don’t have time to peruse recipe books and am trying (not succeeding) to not waste too much time on the computer when I should be knitting. I’m putting out a help call to you all. What is your favorite Trifle recipe? Cari has given me a great one but I’m just wondering about different varieties.

Have you filled out your wish list?

Just letting you know that miracles can happen! Tom and I wallpapered together yesterday for the first time ever – even had fun at it. And our marriage is still good!
We have always had an agreement, he paints (I seem to do some of that too) and I wallpaper and he has never helped. Usually its not a big deal but the wall I needed done is 10ft. and I don’t like heights at the best of times. So he helped!
This makes me think of when Tom recently updated his Facebook profile. He had never filled in some of the specifics so when he corrected the married status, there was a message that went out to his friends letting them know of changes in his status. His funniest comment (he read them to me because I am not on Facebook) was from our son – something about “this is a fine way of finding out!”
I don’t know why the wallpapering made me think of the Facebook thing. Maybe because of our joking about our marriage surviving wallpapering together. Now I’m hoping he doesn’t expect me to help with the painting. I have secret Christmas knitting that must be done.

Tomorrow is the first of 2 Sundays and Mondays that I’m open for Christmas. Don’t let me sit and knit alone. If you want to escape the Mall madness bring out your knitting and sit for a bit in the calm of New Hamburg. Sunday is 1-4 and Monday is 10 – 5:30.
Ok, back to the sock monkey – pics soon

One of the things I’ve learned since opening the shop is not to assume that when a couple walks in – it isn’t necessarily the woman who is the knitter. I’ve been corrected a few times.
But we are having a special Men’s Night. Now this can be for men who knit or for men to buy their Christmas gifts for someone they love who knits. Next Tuesday, December 16th from 4 – 9 we are going to have special discounts, gift wrapping and even some snacky type things. So send your man over and don’t forget to fill out your wish list.

I seem to have fallen off the face of the earth (or my knitting chair) – sorry – I’m really here. Stuff has been happening since last we chatted.
First – the Mitten contest – WOW – you guys are amazing!! 106 pairs of mitts and about a dozen hats have been brought to the Wilmot Family Resource Centre to be put into the Christmas hampers – how cool is that. And the winners of the contest are Heather and Lynn – thank you to both of you for all your mitts. And a big THANK YOU to everyone else who brought in mitts, there will be a lot of warm hands this winter because of you.
And Wilmot Family Resource would like to thank you all for all the food donations that have been dropped off here. We do a run every couple of weeks with bags of things. You guys are amazing!
Still some things coming in before Christmas and don’t forget next Tuesday the 16th is Men’s night. Send them in to buy your Christmas gifts and get a discount and get it wrapped too.
Addi Click is here! This is their version of the interchangeable needles. I ordered 5 sets but got 1 in – more to come hopefully.
Mounting boards for blocking are on their way as well as the Knowknits bags in every colour. And we are going to be carrying a line similar that is hand-made by a local artist!
I don’t know if you get The Grand Magazine – it is delivered to some areas of Waterloo and for sale for the rest of us. I advertise in it because I think it is a great magazine geared to women over 40. Well imagine my delight when I saw the latest version has an article on Sharon Whittle and some of her art. I have her spun bracelets and think they are amazing. I have been trying to get my hands on one of her necklaces for a while and she is always sold out but I got to see pictures. She is one talented lady. She has had a health issue this year but we are all hoping she is back to her spinning wheel soon.
And then – Carolyn Lorimer – WOW again! I have been privileged to be able to carry some of her art in the shop. Wow – what else can I say – it makes you happy just looking at it. Am I right?
