At Shall We Knit? we have always treated World Wide Knit-In-Public
(WWKIP) day, held annually in June, as if it were a national
holiday. At our last event, we had a carnival-style atmosphere.
Under many tents in our parking lot, we featured a dyeing demo by
Indigodragonfly Yarns and auctioned off the naming rights and the
resulting skeins, played carnival games and prizes, hosted Swami
Wisehilda who diagnosed knit troubles, and held a bake sale and BBQ.
Even though rain dampened our fun, we still raised over $2000 for
our charity partner.
This coming year, our June 15th WWKIP promises similar big fun -
with one important difference. Our friends Kim & Ron of
Indigodragonfly Yarns are getting married at the end of the summer!
Weʼre going to throw them a sort of wedding shower, minus the
traditional paper bow hats and pass-the-parcel nonsense. For this
one year, we are going to gift our proceeds from the special
activities of this day to them, for a studio-building fund.
See how that works? We help them build a studio, they help our
customers get more pretty yarn faster. Itʼs a win-win-win. And they
donʼt really need a toaster.

So what are some of the things we will be doing at
Studiopalooza?
- Indigodragonfly will again be auctioning off the naming
rights of a limited edition colourway online prior to the
actual dyeing demo on June 15th. The online auction will run June
1st to June 10th, while the actual dyeing and auction of a limited
number of skeins will happen on June 15th. Kim & Ron will post
guidelines and rules on their website and in their Ravelry group as
well as on our website.
- Knitting or Crochet questions, problems or want a quick demo?
Kate Atherley (wisehildaknits) and Beth Graham will
be on duty alternately to help with any thing you can think of –
Kate for knitting and Beth for crochet. Want a technique demo’ed?
A refresher on a stitch? These ladies will be able to help. For 5
minutes you will have a one-on-one for a minimum $2 donation.
- A Photo Booth will be set up on our front porch.
This will be an opportunity for you to model your knitting and have
pics taken for a minimum donation of $2 per item. We will even have
a tickle trunk of props to make those pics even more fun. We will
email you a copy of the pictures as well as posting on our website
and maybe Kims. For each item using yarn bought at SWK? You
will get one draw slip, if item is knit (or crocheted) out of
Indigodragonfly – two draw slips!!!
- Food! Every carnival type event has to have food
and we will are looking for a few special delicacies, starting with:
Hand-made ice cream
by Katherine Matthews
- Vendors – since you’re helping to make this a
special day for Kim & Ron we are working hard to make it a special
day for you. We have invited a select few artisans to join us
and to set up a few mini booths.

AND because one day just isn’t enough – Kim & Ron will be doing a
Yarntasting class and Kate will be doing a
Finishing class on Sunday morning.
After the classes (at 1:00) on Sunday we are going to have a
picnic! Just an informal, fun time with Kim & Ron, sitting around,
eating, laughing and relaxing. We will supply cold drinks and some
shaded space, you bring a bag lunch and lawn chairs and lets see
what shenanigans ensue.
